What a machine!

Ok guys… got it all up and running without the need for the Canon engineers. To be honest, as long as you have someone with you to help with the heavy lifting, it is all very straightforward. Canon wanted 200 euros to come and do that.Printed of the first few images and I must say the quality is outstanding. I have never-ever seen anything comparable or even close. The way is can handle gradients in the sky and water is amazing. Now playing around with different papers and canvases. With give you all a full report soon. Have noticed that Kodak’s Glossy Photo is much better than Canon’s Glossy Photo. Plus Kodak is a fair bit cheaper. Full report coming soon.

Finally, a Helpful Dealer!

Many of you may know of the trouble I have been having sourcing materials here in Tenerife, Spain.

Thankfully, I think I have now got a solution. There is a company in the UK called Azzuriprint, who are a Canon Elite dealer.

Within a day of contacting them with a load of questions they had replied and sent the most comprehensive price list, specifically for IFP8000 compatible products.

They really do seem to be on the ball. I will let you know how it goes with them.

You can find them at:

Core Holder Question

Could someone who has a IPF8000 please tell me what the deal is with the roll-holders. I notice on the box contents that it doesn’t specify that any roll holders are supplied (although one is shown on the illustration). I just need some advice on whether I should quickly order both roll holders.

Canon Pro-User Site

Came across this micro-site from Canon. Mainly deals with the IPF5000, but it’s well worth a look.

You will have to cut and the past the link as for some reason wordpress doesn’t want to embed this one.

Swatch Pack

Anyone know where I can source a Canon Large Format material sample pack from. My local dealer only has one and is unable to get another one (he says). Does anyone know of a dealer that can sell me one mail-order? Doesn’t matter where they, I am just desperate to get hold of one ASAP.

Update: I just noticed that in the box contents of the printer lists a Canon Swatch Book. Does anyone know if this the full pack or just the little credit-card sized set?

Canon Spain Nightmare

bloodstone.jpg

I must say that getting a list of prices for papers and canvases from Canon in Tenerife is like getting blood from a stone.

I can’t believe how poor their service is on this. They were happy to take the money for the printer, shame I cant buy Canon products to print on with it.

Anyone know a good material supply firm that delivers to europe/worldwide?

Epson 1290s With CFS

Hi Guys & Gals,

1280bb1.jpg

Example of the system for the 1290s from inksupply.com

On a separate note I have now been using a continuous ink system with my old Epson 1290s for one month now and I thought I would let you know how it’s been.

I have had the printer for about 4/5 years and it was unused for the last two years in favour of the Xerox Phaser 7750 printer we had in the office. Excellent machine by the way.

As we no longer have the Xerox, we needed something to use for proofs. I always got on with the Epson 1290 when I was using it, but the cost of the cartridges was totally crazy.

I had heard of CFS system before, but the comments varied wildly on it’s effectiveness. I decided to do some reseach, read a few forums and ordered a full kit (cartridges, ink and mountings) from http://www.inksupply.com

Although they are in the states and I am in the Canary Isalnds, the product took less than a week to ship here. Very impressed.

Set-up was straight forward, although if you are not used to fiddling inside electronics it could be a little tricky.

As the printer had been unused for so very long, it was totally dried up inside. It took ages and ages of cleaning cycles and printing a purge sheet over and over again to get the colours through. If you have a working printer you would not have this problem although you would have to purge the old ink through the system first.

Once working it has been like a dream come true. I can now print without a single thought to the cost on the ink. I have already done 100’s of prints and the bottles (4oz in each) have barely started to empty.

We have even been able to offer short run colour flyers printed of 180gsm photo card (4 Euros for a pack of 100) to our clients for only 39 Euros per 100.

I am currently trying to pick up a second hand Epson 1290s (I know a man!) so we can get production of the short-run inkjet printing up.

I would happily recommend this system to anyone.

Check out http://www.inksupply.com (where I purchased mine) or http://www.inkrepublic.com (who come highly recommended too). On that note I have heard terrible things about the system that are sold via ebay, etc. They are meant to block head, leak and generally waste you time. So dont be a cheapskate, buy I proper system.

Do you have the same system? Have you got anything to say on the matter? I would love to here your experiences.

Canon Cost Examples

Found a great PDF highlighting ink and material costs for the 8000 & 9000.

Very useful for working out what this think will actual cost me when I start printing.
